LINGUISTICS??? WHAT IS THAT!!!

WHAT IS LINGUISTICS?

When addressing this question, we should tell you beforehand what not is Linguistics!😂

What not is Linguistics OR who is not a Linguist?

• A branch of English language
• Teach us you English language like correct pronunciations, grammar of English 
• Gender studies
• One who is super proficient in English language
• Polyglot (know several language)

and many more assumptions! If this is not linguistics, then what is it? 

What is Linguistics?

• Linguistics is a branch of Humanities and Social Science 
• Studies about all natural languages including sign languages (Oh my God! Linguists learn all the languages😲. When will you finish learning all these languages?)

YES! EVERY LANGUAGE HAS LINGUISTICS

What does a Linguist do?

• Studies every aspect of language 
• Capable of writing grammar of any language
• Documents language.

and much more!

Why do you do this?

There are so many species in our planet. And the most so called "intelligent species" is Homo Sapiens. How could have this possible? Because we could communicate more effectively or efficiently than our fellow beings. ( Have a different opinion? You are welcome!) And Yes! LANGUAGE

IF LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT, LINGUISTICS IS SUPER IMPORTANT😎 

Is this course has any scope?

• There are many job opportunities like translation, transliteration, proof reading to lexicography (dictionary compiling),teaching and many other. New branches like Computational linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Forensic linguistics, etc. are developing. 
• RESEARCH! Immense areas there to be explored!

And most importantly, some one had told me that

'SCOPE OF A SUBJECT IS DETERMINED BY THE LEARNER'

(There are many jobless doctors and engineers around us!!!) 

I would say, Linguistics is the branch which is closely associated with human beings in every day. Language is even in the air we breath in and out (To speak, sound is produced and air helps in producing the sound😄. Fact or not?) 

In short,

Linguistics is the scientific study of Language. 

Really? What is there to study so scientifically in language? So, that means it is a science?
